A Night Out West

Events Mar 23 Perth Town Hall

601 Hay St, Perth, WA 6000

Description

We’re closing out The Embassy with A Night Out West – and everyone’s invited. Join us for this celebratory ode to The Coolbaroo Club and its infamous ball, thrown back in 1955.

As a nod to the legendary Coolbaroo Club dances we’ve got a hot line-up of all First Nations artists planned, including a special tribute performance by David Milroy and Lucky Oceans and the award-winning R&B, neo-soul artist Bumpy. Taking us late into the night is self-described sonic adventurer Poli Pearl.

The Coolbaroo League started in 1947 as a protest to the prohibition area in the city centre and got its name from the Yamatji word for magpie, to symbolise the coming together of black and white. The dances were attended by mob from all over and were open to everyone, including visiting celebrities like the Harlem Globetrotters and Nat King Cole.

In the spirit of coming together all are welcome at A Night Out West, The Embassy closing night party.
