Description
Amato Vino are small-batch artisan winemakers with a 'lo-fi' winemaking philosophy, embracing wild-ferments, minimal adjustments, gentle handling and employing traditional processes.
Established in 2003 by owner/winemaker Brad Wehr, the wines cover traditional Margaret River varietals through to some eclectic and unusual grape varieties.
Visit the Witchcliffe cellar door for a tasting. Cheese plates of local produce are available to enjoy while you sip on your vino. The courtyard is shared with WitchyBrews espresso bar for coffee and treats.
AMATO VINO ‘wilds’
Emerging Mediterranean varieties, micro-batches and skinny ferments. Featuring single vineyards, hand-picks, natural ferments, minimal winemaking input and unconventional vessels for fermentation/maturation – this is the wild stuff. Wines include Teroldego, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Marsanne, Trousseau and Savagnin.
AMATO VINO ‘mantra’
These are all about the classic Margies grape varieties, albeit with our lo-fi twist. The emphasis is on vineyard site & fruit purity, working with small fruit parcels to bring out the best from each site. Wild ferments, no adds, no fining and filtration. Wines include a Barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
AMATO VINO ‘fusa’
Utilising emerging/alternative varieties as the basis for the blends to create juicy, fresh drinkability, yet complex and alluring wines. Fruit-forward, fleshy and flavoursome made for short to mid-term drinking.
