Description

Anchor Bommie is a magnificent dive site located on Lady Elliot Island.

It is a coral tower situated on the sandy sea floor, standing around 10 meters tall and approximately 21 meters deep. The bommie features beautiful layers of coral, small caves, and ledges for exploration.

The dive site is teeming with aquatic life. Schools of cardinalfish can be found, along with packs of trevally that prey upon them. Other species of fish such as coral cod, coral trout, leaf scorpionfish, moray eels, tasselled wobbegongs, and the rare Spanish dancer nudibranch can also be spotted. The sandy floor surrounding the bommie is home to whitetip reef sharks, stingrays, shovelnose rays, turtles, and garden eels. Manta rays often circle the top of the bommie to get cleaned by the resident cleaner wrasse.

Lady Elliot Island offers a great diving experience year-round, with water temperatures ranging from 22-28°C depending on the season. To reach Lady Elliot Island, you can take a plane from Hervey Bay or Bundaberg airports. Once on the island, Anchor Bommie can be accessed via boat from local charter companies. It's important to note that Lady Elliot Island is a total reef ecosystem, and fishing or collecting is not permitted to ensure sustainability and eco-tourism.
