Tourist attractions

Blue Mountains National Park, NSW 2785

Description

Anvil Rock Lookout is a stunning viewpoint in the Blackheath area of the Blue Mountains National Park.

It offers incredible 360-degree Grose Valley views and features large granite outcrops, dramatic heathland, and mountain swamps surrounded by towering grass trees.

The Anvil Rock lookout trail is a 7.4km out-and-back trail in the Blue Mountains National Park. It is popular for birding, hiking, and mountain biking. The trail is considered easy and takes an average of 1 hour and 54 minutes to complete. The vantage point provides breathtaking views across the valley and is a great spot for a picnic lunch. The nearby Wind Eroded Cave, shaped like a wave-like overhang, is also worth visiting.

Anvil Rock Lookout is a great stop all year round, but the best time to visit is during Spring when the area's stunning wildflower displays are out. Avoid visiting during foggy weather as it obstructs the view.

To get to Anvil Rock Lookout, turn into Hat Hill Road in Blackheath. After 2.6 km, stay on this road until it turns into Perrys Lookdown Road, which is unsealed. At the fork towards the end of the road, stay left to reach the small car park where the start of the short walking track to Anvil Rock is located. The last few kilometers to the car park are on an unsealed road but can be done with a 2WD vehicle. Be cautious after wet weather when the road can get muddy with potholes.

Dogs are not allowed on the Anvil Rock Lookout trail. It is important to wear sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen, snacks, and drinking water. Park
