Archetype Design West Perth

This penthouse apartment on Mount Street takes full advantage of the surrounding views of the city and Swan River.

The clients were lawyers returning to Perth after living in Sydney, London and Singapore. They wanted a modernist interior for their apartment in the Marshall Clifton apartment building.

Natural materials were to be used to create simple spaces and provide aneutral palette for the views of the river and the collection of artefacts the clients wanted to display from their travels.

The house was designed so each area could be opened into the next, allowing harmonious flow that also embraced natural light and the views.

Portions of the original key walls were retained to subtly define each space and maintain a level of intimacy, as well as provide walls for artworks.

The mixed palette of natural, subtle and recycled materials created a space that is fresh, modern, rich and complex.

Ceilings were lifted and ceiling heights and air conditioning rationalised, while the kitchen and laundry ceiling were reverted to the original concrete slab and a whitewash technique applied.

A crafted solid iroko timber bar serves as a transitional space between the kitchen and living area. The kitchen had to be modelled to take an imported Arclinea installation of stainless steel and glass cabinetry.

Door opening heights were lifted throughout and recycled jarrah was used to form a modern architrave incorporating a negative detail surround.

Upstairs, the master ensuite was extensively remodelled with the new design consisting of a large walk through robe and a larger suite that is more open to the breeze and view. The shower was relocated to take advantage of the view and direct access to the balcony.
