Welcome to Ashby
The family focused and developing suburb is bounded by Wanneroo Road to the southwest, Pinjar Road to the southeast and Conti Road to the north. About 40 per cent of the suburb has been developed for residential purposes and includes some beautiful parks. It came into being in the late 1990s as a subdivision of Wanneroo.
Inside my neighbourhood
Ashby is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Established Wanneroo Central Place Management Area. Ashby is located to the north of Wanneroo and the City’s Operations Centre is conveniently located at 1204 Wanneroo Road. The centre is also the home of the Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.
More than 6,000 people currently live in the combined suburbs of Ashby and Sinagra. Further growth in the area is expected with the population estimated to increase to 10,000 people in the next 20 years.
Origin of name and history
Approved on 5 March 1998, Ashby is named after Eli Edward Ashby, a market gardener and dairy farmer who owned land in the area in 1913. For many years Eli was a member of the Wanneroo Road Board and President of the Agricultural Society. Soldiers of the 10th Light Horse Regiment camped near his home, “Spring Hill”, which was located at 77 Ashley Road Tapping. The soldiers would cut through the bush to the house where Edith Ashby would serve breakfast. Eli had a dresser on the back veranda, which he kept stocked with tobacco and toiletries for the troopers to purchase.
