Description

Australian Age of Dinosaurs Ltd (AAOD) is a not-for-profit organization based in Winton, Queensland, founded in 2002 by David Elliott and Judy Elliott.

The Organization's activities include the operation of the Age of Dinosaurs Australian Museum of Natural History (the Museum). which conducts annual excavations of dinosaurs in the Winton Formation in western Queensland and oversees the operation year round... The AAOD Museum is located on a large table called "The JumpUp" which is 15 miles southeast of Winton and Located 600 km southwest of Townsville. Visitors driving from Longreach should head northwest on the Landsborough Highway for 100 miles before turning left onto Dinosaur Drive. From the motorway it is another 11 km on a paved road to the museum. RVs can be towed to the top of the JumpUp, although the museum has provided a drop-off area at the base of the table for visitors towing an RV with a small 2WD vehicle. In 1999, David Elliott discovered the fossilized bones of what was then Australia's largest dinosaur while tending sheep at his Belmont estate near Winton. This bone was later identified as part of a giant femur of a Cretaceous sauropod that roamed the Winton area 95 million years ago. Following the discovery of more fossils during excavations with the Queensland Museum, David Elliott and Judy Elliott called a public meeting in Winton on August 17, 2002 to establish a dinosaur museum in Winton.
