Balcombe Creek Estuary

Balcombe Creek Estuary is a stunning natural reserve located on the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay.

Covering 44 hectares of bushland, it is the last unspoiled waterway that flows into the bay. The reserve consists of four separate but adjacent reserves, which were declared in 1987. The area is of significant cultural importance to the Boonerwrung people, the traditional owners of Mornington Peninsula, who called it Tji'tjin'garook, which means the voice of frogs.

Visitors to Balcombe Creek Estuary can explore the reserve and its natural wonders via a 3.5 km boardwalk and walking tracks through the dense bushland on the south bank of the creek, stretching from the estuary to the Nepean Highway. There are two bridges that cross the creek to the north bank, creating a lovely circuit. Along the way, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the creek, its estuary, and the surrounding bushland, which is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.

Balcombe Creek Estuary is open year-round, and visitors can explore the reserve's beauty in every season. Visitors should check the weather forecast before coming as the area can be prone to flooding in heavy rain.

To reach Balcombe Creek Estuary, take the Nepean Highway and turn onto Epsom Road. The entrance to the reserve is situated approximately 1.6 km west of the highway turnoff.
