Description
Enjoy a stroll through the Bathurst Fernery, home to a wide range of ferns and subtropical plants that would otherwise not thrive in Bathurst's dry climate. Adjacent to Begonia House, just to the east of Machattie Park, you will find Bathurst Fernery.
Constructed in 1890, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Machattie Park and has remained relatively unchanged from the outside, despite some changes to the fern inside. At the main entrance to the ice cream shop you will find a plaque commemorating Charles Darwin's visit to Bathurst in 1836 and inside are several marble statues originally on loan from the National Gallery of Art in Sydney in 1901....
