Description
Beeac Windmill Park in Beeac is a fascinating and educational stop to make on your trip through Victoria's Volcanic Plains.
Beeac is a small town with a population of around 200 people, located on the banks of Lake Beeac in the Lakes and Craters Region. The Beeac Windmill Park was established in 2010, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the town's existence. The park showcases windmills that operated in the region between the 1890s and 1940s, and each windmill has its own information board. Six different windmill manufacturers are represented in the park.
The Beeac Windmill Park is an open-air park with seven windmills and loads of historical information boards about the town and the evolution of the windmills. There's a pavilion that features a variety of informative displays representing Beeac's history. Towards the back of the park, you'll find a sample dry stone wall, typical of the area. The Farmers Arms Hotel at 87 Main Street is open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. There is also a general store across the road that sells food and drinks.
The Beeac Heritage Trail is a must-do when visiting Beeac. There are 41 points of interest on the trail, although you can take in as many or as little as you want. Many of the historic buildings along the trail feature a plaque with a photo of the building in its early days and a short history.
