Description
Big Brook is a young forest, regenerated after logging in the 1920s and forms one of the most picturesque places in karri country with views across the dam to the forest.
Big Brook Forest was the first karri forest to be regrown for timber after the logging period in the 1920s and 1930s.
Today, the Big Brook Forest stands as an impressive example of a rejuvenated karri forest with a number popular visitor attractions. These form a series of destination sites to visit along the Karri Forest Explorer.
Big Brook Dam
Built in 1986 to supplement the Pemberton town and Trout Hatchery water supply, the Big Brook Dam provides a fantastic opportunity for recreational activities.
Visitors often stop at Big Brook Dam to enjoy a picnic by the water’s edge or enjoy swimming or fishing in the dam (see Fisheries website for details).
Dogs may be taken on a leash to the Big Brook Dam, but not around the beach area.
Take a hike or a bike
There is also a sealed 4km walk trail called Big Brook Dam Walk Trail that follows the shores of the dam allowing stroller and wheelchair access, and is ideal for cycling.
Explore
The Big Brook Arboretum is a popular attraction with trees from around the world. Visitors can explore this area via boardwalks through Warren River cedar natives and ending at a 300 year old giant karri known as Big Karri.
No camping is available at the dam area, but is available at the Big Brook Arboretum.
