Birramal Conservation area

Birramal Conservation Area in Lloyd is a 128-hectare site designated for environmental conservation.

It is also known as 'Birramal', reflecting the cultural and historic connections between the Wiradjuri peoples and the environment.

Visitors can explore the Wiradjuri Trail on foot or by bike, which offers stunning views of Wagga Wagga, the surrounding landscape, and a variety of bird and mammal species. This trail provides an opportunity to experience the beauty of the bush and learn about local Indigenous culture, art, and history.

The area is home to the White Box Woodland community, which supports the locally endangered squirrel glider. Visitors can spot the squirrel glider and learn about their behavior and habitat, as well as the conservation efforts to protect them.

To address the decline of natural tree hollows, new plantings have been done to provide food and shelter for native animals and create artificial nest boxes. Glider poles have been installed to link different areas of vegetation, creating a safe passage for the squirrel glider.
