Blue Pool Briagolong

Blue Pool Briagolong is a natural waterhole and gorge, located just half an hour north of Sale.

Despite being a well-known swimming spot for the locals, it has managed to remain off the radar until recently. It offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and an opportunity to explore the serene beauty of nature.

The Blue Pool Briagolong features a massive waterhole that starts off shallow, but quickly gets deep, thus offering ample space for diving, swimming, and cooling off comfortably during hot and sunny days. The Bluff is an outstandingly steep five-minute climb, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Blue Pool area. Apart from that, the Peregrine Lookout Trail, which takes an hour to return, is an ideal spot for bird lovers to watch for Peregrine falcons, especially between September and December.

The Blue Pool Briagolong is open all year round, but the best time to visit is between September and December. During these months, you can see the Peregrine falcons nesting and spot other birds too. Note that the weather can become a bit more challenging in the late autumn and winter months, so make sure to pack appropriately.

Blue Pool Briagolong is easily accessible by car and located just half an hour north of Sale. For people travelling from the north, it is about 2.5 hours from Melbourne. You can follow Princes Highway and then turn left onto the Briagolong-Boisdale Road. After this, continue on Briagolong road, take a left turn towards Freestone Creek Road and then another left to Blue Pool Road. Keep travelling until you reach the Blue Pool Briagolong.
