Description
Boowinda Gorge Carnarvon National Park is a stunning trail located in the Maranoa Region of Central Queensland.
The 27.4-km out-and-back trail follows the Carnarvon Creek to Battleship Spur via Boowinda Gorge along the Big Bend trail and Carnarvon Great Walk trail.
The trail offers scenic views of tall sandstone cliffs, deep gorges, bush forests, dry bushland, palm trees, and cactuses. It is an area of Indigenous significance and is home to a variety of fauna and flora as well as incredible Indigenous rock art. Hikers can explore featured areas such as Boolimba Bluff, Moss Garden, The Amphitheatre, Ward's Canyon, The Art Gallery Walk, and Cathedral Cave.
The trail is popular for backpacking, birding, and camping. Visitors can camp overnight at Big Bend Camp to fully explore the area.
Getting to the trail requires planning as navigation can be difficult. It is recommended to read the walk description for special directions and download a map or GPS track before arriving newline.
