Description
Bostock Reservoir is a popular fishing spot located off Shaw's road exit towards Ballan on the way to Daylesford.
It offers stunning views and has a picnic and barbecue area, making it a great location for fishing and family outings. The reservoir has recently seen a rise in water levels, improving the fishing experience. It has a holding capacity of 7,640 megalitres and is formed by an earth and rockfill dam.
Fishing at Bostock Reservoir can be challenging but rewarding. The lake is open and exposed on windy days, and its water clarity is generally very clean. The reservoir is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and redfin are active in the warmer months while trout are active in the cooler months. Dawn and dusk are the ideal times to fish, and various fishing techniques, lures, and bait can be used.
Various species can be caught at Bostock Reservoir, including redfin, brown trout, rainbow trout, tench, carp, and eels. Long casting spoons and spinners weighing between 5 and 12 grams are great for targeting trout and redfin. Submerged trees, rocks, or weeds are good areas to find these species. Soft plastics and lures can also be used, with the slow roll or hopping/twitching technique for retrieval. Bait fishing with scrub worms, maggots, or yabbies on a light running sinker rig or paternoster rig is recommended. Power bait, minnows, mudeye, corn kernels, or bread are also good bait options.
