Description

Cafe Kentaro is a Japanese-inspired restaurant located in Surry Hills, New South Wales.

It is a refined hidden gem that offers modern Japanese cuisine and excellent coffee. The space has an industrial interior with touches of homey decor. The cafe is the second installment to the successful Cafe Oratnek and is located on Bourke Street. The menu is shorter than that at Oratnek, but it features exciting new dishes that push the limits of Japanese fusion cuisine. All of the dishes at Cafe Kentaro come straight from the mind of Chef Kenny, who takes classic favorites and adds his Japanese influence to them. The food is heavily influenced by Japanese cuisine and served in a familiar Australian cafe fare way. Some of the popular items on the menu include the Katsu Sandwich, Omurice, and Japanese Poutine. The cafe is known for experimenting with Matcha, and they offer delightful Matcha brownies and cream puffs. Cafe Kentaro is also known for its excellent coffee, which comes from the talented guys at Aroma Coffee, who roast a blend especially for them. The textured milk temperature is just right, and the hojicha latte is quite strong with roasted sweet earthy notes. The cafe is all about warmth and comfort, and this applies to their service as well. The staff is sharp but casual, and they provide excellent service to their customers. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area is dog-friendly.
