Description
Callan Park, previously known as Garry Owen Estate, is a 60-hectare (150-acre) heritage listed site located in Lilyfield, Inner West Council in Sydney, NSW.
It was originally purchased by John Ryan Brenan and later renamed Callan Park by John Gordon. The site is known for its historical significance and was once a local center for social life.
In 1885, the colonial government bought the land to build a lunatic asylum, which remained in place until 1994. The Kirkbride Complex, a part of the hospital, was later renovated and occupied by Sydney College of the Arts.
