Cape Melville National Park (Cypal) is a nature enthusiast's paradise located on the Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land.
The park is known for its impressive rocky headlands, beautiful sandy beaches, sandstone escarpments, inland dunes, and stunning granite boulders. It is an isolated area that is home to unique plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world.
Adventure seekers will find plenty to do in Cape Melville National Park. Camping is available on the eastern side of Bathurst Bay or at Ninian Bay camping area. Visitors can enjoy walks along the sandy beaches, visit the Mahina monument, go fishing and boating in the adjacent marine parks, or take their mountain bike or trail-bike along the park's internal roads and tracks.
Cape Melville National Park is easily accessible by road, sea, and air. Visitors can reach the park from Cooktown via the Battle Camp Road, which is a four-wheel-drive track. It is important to note that the park is only accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles, and there are no fuel stations past Cooktown. Visitors should come prepared with sufficient fuel, water, food, and other necessary supplies as there are no shops in the park.
Visitors to Cape Melville National Park must be well-prepared and self-sufficient. The park is extremely remote with no supply of drinking water, food, petrol, or mobile connectivity. It is important to be aware of estuarine crocodiles and dangerous stinging jellyfish and to camp only in designated areas.
