Description
Cape Woolamai Walk is an 8.4-kilometer scenic trail located at Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island.
It offers several walking tracks, including Pinnacles Walk and Old Granite Quarry Walk, and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The starting point of the trail is at the car park at the end of Woolamai Beach Road. From there, you walk onto the beach, turn left, follow the beach for about one kilometer, and then take the stairs up to the loop walks.
This area is a hiker's delight, with an array of walks to choose from, including the Cape Woolamai Circuit that combines all three walks. The tracks are marked with different colored markers and offer different lengths and difficulty ratings. Along the trail, you will encounter beautiful beaches, woodland, spectacular cliff edges, and rock formations. You can also observe various bird species, such as penguins, hooded plovers, and short-tailed shearwaters, as well as mammals like koalas, possums, wallabies, Australian fur seals, and bats.
The trail is open year-round, but the best time to visit is between October and April when you can witness up to a million shearwaters. Summer is also a great time to see hundreds of butterflies. It is recommended to choose low tide periods for safe beach walking. The trail has a moderate rating and is not suitable for wheelchairs.
