Capricorn Caves

Capricorn Caves are one of the largest privately-owned cave systems in Australia, located 23 kilometres (14 mi) north of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.

These incredible limestone caves were first discovered by Norwegian migrant John Olsen in 1881, who went on to claim the land under a leasehold title and open the attraction to the public in 1884. Today, the caves are classified as freehold land and continues to be one of the longest-running tourist attractions in Queensland.

John Olsen was an early explorer who discovered Capricorn Caves in the year 1881. It became a public attraction in 1884 with the opening of the cave for public viewing. Today the property is privately owned and has become one of the largest private cave systems in Australia.

Capricorn Caves offer a range of adventure activities for visitors, such as abseiling, rock climbing, fossicking, and animal viewing at the 33-hectare property. The adventure course features a climbing wall and rope obstacle. Additionally, a range of accommodation facilities are available for visitors, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the unique experience. The complex also contains a geo-discovery building that is popular for school education programs in biology, geology, and environmental studies.

The Capricorn Caves conduct hourly tours from 9 am until 4 pm, and adventure tours can be booked in advance. The Cathedral Tour lasts for one hour and involves a 1-kilometre (0.62 mi) walk through the caves with an adventure option at the end negotiating your way through a narrow, zigzag water-formed passageway by candlelight,
