Description

Nestled in the central west region of New South Wales, Australia, Carcoar Dam is a minor concrete double parabolic arch dam, built-in 1969-70 as part of the Belubula River irrigation scheme.

The dam serves the region with its clean water supply and supports the farmers and communities downstream. The dam is located approximately 6 kilometres north of the village of Carcoar and is a popular recreational spot for enthusiasts seeking water activities.

Carcoar Dam boasts a wall height of 57 meters and a wall length of 187 meters. The dam has a maximum water depth of 41 meters and a capacity of holding back up to 36,400 megalitres of water at 720 meters AHD. The dam covers an area of 385 hectares and has a catchment area of 230 square kilometres. The structure incorporates an uncontrolled overflow spillway, which can discharge 1,218 cubic meters per second of water, thus ensuring the longevity of the dam. The dam's unique feature lies in its double curvature, which sets it apart from other structures of the same kind.

Carcoar Dam offers visitors an array of activities, giving them a chance to indulge in adventure and water sports. Fishing enthusiasts can relish Murray Cod, Golden Perch, Silver Perch, and Rainbow Trout, all stocked in the dam, with Redfin present. Boasting a vast surface area, the dam is perfect for water skiing, sailing, swimming, and windsurfing. After a long day of activities, visitors can enjoy peaceful and relaxing picnics, barbecues, and camping facilities available in the area.
