Cinema Nova was established in August 1992 in Carlton as a collaboration between two landmark theatres, the Longford Cinema in South Yarra and the Valhalla Cinema in Richmond & Westgarth. Opening as a twin theatre, we’ve grown to become the biggest independent cinema in the southern hemisphere, with 16 screens and the Nova Bar & Kitchen, offering Melbourne moviegoers more variety than any other cinema.

Showcasing the best in quality, independent, Australian, art-house and international film as well as festivals including Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Monster Fest, Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and Italian Film Festival. Plus events such as The Room, Cinema Fiasco, CineTrivia, Film Club, Overnight Twilight Marathon, and more.
