Claisebrook

Claise Brook is a former stream in Perth, Western Australia, located in the suburb of East Perth.

It played a vital role as a watercourse where freshwater lakes emptied into during the wet season. The stream and cove were initially known as Mandalup before being named Clause's Brook and Clause's Lagoon. In the past, the area around Claise Brook and Claisebrook Cove was primarily used for industrial purposes, leading to severe degradation of the water quality and surroundings. It was known as the Claise Brook Drain and served as an effluent outlet into the river. Efforts were made to remediate the environmental damage caused by the East Perth Gas Works, which operated in the area from 1922 to 1971. The redevelopment of the precinct surrounding Claisebrook Cove, now known as Claisebrook Village, has transformed the area into a predominantly residential neighborhood. The cove has been landscaped into an artificial inlet of the Swan River, and there are various amenities such as bars, cafes, and restaurants overlooking the cove.

Despite no longer existing as a natural waterway, Claise Brook remains a historically significant landmark and picturesque location in Perth, Western Australia. It is now a popular destination for recreational boating, with moorings and jetties available. The area is also connected to other parts of the city through several bridges, including the Trafalgar Bridge, Matagarup Bridge, Goongoongup Railway Bridge, and Windan Bridge.
