The Cochrane Artificial Reef Dive Site in Bargara is considered one of the best dive sites in the Woongarra Marine Park.
It offers divers an impressive underwater playground just a short boat trip away from the shore.
At the Cochrane Artificial Reef Dive Site, divers can explore the 50-meter long 'Ceratodus II' and the 40-meter long 'Porteur', surrounded by submerged aircraft, lightships, concrete modules, pipes, and other structures. The site is teeming with sea life, coral reefs, and unique marine species, including estuary cod, groper, stingrays, turtles, wobbegong sharks, and more. It also provides great opportunities for underwater photography.
The best time to visit the Cochrane Artificial Reef Dive Site is during the warmer months from November to April. Water temperatures range from 19°C to 26°C, and visibility is excellent, usually ranging from 10 to 20 meters.
To reach the Cochrane Artificial Reef Dive Site, you need to take a short boat trip from Bargara, which is approximately 13 km east of Bundaberg, Queensland. There are several boat tour operators in the area that offer guided diving tours of the reef and provide scuba gear for rent.
