Company Dam Grenfell was built in June 1867 to supply water to gold claims and crushers in the area. The Grenfell Water Company was responsible for the construction of the dam, and its estimated capacity was 10 million gallons of water storage, making it one of the largest dams for mining in the colony. After the mining era ended, the dam fell into disrepair until the arrival of the railway in Grenfell in 1901. Since then, it has been used to supply water to steam engines.
