Positioned 20 kilometres east of Green Island off the Cairns coast, Flynn Reef is home to several dive sites with the Coral Gardens being one of them.

This picturesque dive site is located on the outer reef and offers a combination of diving, from dramatic wall dives to intricate hard coral formations.

The diving experience at Coral Gardens is a must-do for all the diving enthusiasts, with consistently good visibility of close to 30 metres making it a great location for underwater activities. This dive site is particularly famous for the visits by large pelagic fish such as dogtooth tuna, mackerel, and barracuda, as well as a range of species of shark, especially whitetip reef sharks.

The picturesque Coral Gardens is home to a great variety of colourful reef fish, including coral cod, butterflyfish, parrotfish, wrasse, rabbitfish and sweetlips. The diverse ecosystem of this dive site boasts of hard corals, and various soft coral species that house the abundant marine life. The shallow lagoon area, located on one side of the reef, is perfect for discovering species of small marine creatures. Water temperatures range from 22C (71F) to 30C (86F). It is always a good idea to check the weather forecast conditions before making any travel plans.

Flynn Reef is a popular location for diving and can be accessed by day trip or liveaboard tour from Cairns. There are vessels that offer diving for all skill levels from basic to advanced. Boats depart from Cairns marina daily, and it takes approximately 2 hours to reach
