De La Terre Winery: A Unique Wine Destination in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
De La Terre Winery is a small family-run winery owned and operated by Tony and Kaye Prichard, and Gracie, the Winery Dog.
Located in Sherenden, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, the winery offers visitors a unique wine experience beyond just wine tasting.
Producing small volumes of high-quality wines, the winery's emphasis is on elegance, texture, and balance. They have a quirky mix of grape varieties that allows them to create a full range of wine styles from Methode Traditionnelle Blanc de Blancs, simple and complex white wines, a selection of lesser-known (in New Zealand) red grape varieties, through to a Sauternes-style Noble Viognier.
Built with "earth bricks" from a local earth brick maker, who uses highly compressed soil to make them, the winery oozes earthiness (de la terre). The principle of using what is from the earth is weaved throughout the entire place.
Experience Beyond Wine Tasting
The winery's founder, Tony, loves hosting people in the Cellar Door, pouring his wines, and sharing his passion for winemaking, providing a unique experience beyond just wine tasting. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing 20-minute drive from Taradale or Hastings, driving through scenic pastureland to reach the winery.
Opening Hours and Season
The winery is open from October to June, Friday to Sunday, and you can visit from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. They are also available at other times by appointment.
