The Christchurch Central Library, designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Architectus, is situated in the historic Cathedral Square of Christchurch. This five-story library spans 9,500 square meters and serves the city's vision of a public space that strengthens the community, promotes literacy and lifelong learning, celebrates cultural diversity and heritage, attracts people back to the city center, and encourages innovation. The library's design was developed in collaboration with the Matapopore Charitable Trust, which aims to ensure the values, aspirations, and stories of the local Ngai Tuahuriri people are reflected in Christchurch's recovery.
