Description
Devonian Reef Conservation Park, also known as Balili Conservation Park, is a protected area located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
The park includes three national parks – Geikie Gorge National Park, Tunnel Creek National Park, and Windjana Gorge National Park.
Devonian Reef was formed over a period of 20 million years during the Devonian Period, around 380 to 360 million years ago. In 2017, the park's joint management plan was agreed upon between the Bunuba Dawangarri traditional owners and the Western Australian government.
Geikie Gorge National Park is located 20 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing and 280 kilometres from Derby. The park provides evidence of fossils and strata of ancient limestone reef revealing evidence of life in the Devonian Period. Visitors can take a boat tour to explore the Gorge and learn about its history and ecological significance.
Tunnel Creek National Park is situated 115 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing and 180 kilometres from Derby. This national park contains Western Australia's oldest cave system and is home to many colonies of bats and impressive stalactites.
Windjana Gorge National Park is located in the Napier Ranges and spans 3.5 kilometres. The gorge is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including freshwater crocodiles and birds.
