Description
Dharug National Park is located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, approximately 58 kilometres north of Sydney and 25 kilometres west of Gosford.
It spans across 14,850 hectares of land and is surrounded by other national parks, private land, and townships. The park is part of a larger area of protected national parks in the region.
One of the main attractions of the park is the Great North Road, a historic road built by convicts between 1826 and 1836. The Devine's Hill and Finch's Line sections of the road, which are located within the national park, are well-preserved and have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The road is part of the Australian Convict Sites, which tell the story of convict migration and punishment practices.
Dharug National Park is home to a diverse range of wildlife species. Visitors can observe satin bowerbirds, gang-gang cockatoos, green catbirds, and other beautiful creatures in their natural habitats within the park.
The park gets its name from the Darug people, who have been the traditional custodians of the area.
