Description

Dhilba Guuranda–Innes National Park, formerly known as Innes National Park, is a protected area in South Australia.

Situated on the southwest tip of Yorke Peninsula, it is approximately 300 km west of Adelaide. Established in 1970, the park spans over 9,100 hectares and is known for its rich flora and fauna.

The national park has a rich history, with evidence indicating that the Narungga people lived in the area for over 30,000 years. In the 1800s, European settlers arrived and established farms in the region. The national park was named after William Innes, a pastoralist who occupied land in the area in the late nineteenth century.

Featuring stunning coastal landscapes, rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and sweeping sand dunes, the national park offers a diverse range of flora and fauna. Over 100 bird species, 67 species of reptiles, and 13 species of mammals reside in the park.

Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park is classified as an International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) category II protected area. The water bodies adjacent to the coastline of the national park are part of the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park's habitat protection zone. The park is also located within the Southern Yorke Peninsula Important Bird Area, designated as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International.

The national park is known for its rich flora and fauna, with a wide variety of species residing within its boundaries. Numerous species of birds, reptiles, and mammals can be found in the park that are unique to the area.
