Diamond Rock

Tourist attractions

Description

Diamond Rock provides an interesting place to stop along the Holland Track, although not visible from the track. A short 200 metre walk trail leads to the rock.

Granite outcrops such as Diamond Rock were an important water source for Aboriginal people and directly influenced John Holland's choice of route in 1893. Rocky life Thickets of rock sheoak, jam wattle, sandalwood and quondong surround the rock, while lichens and mosses adorn the cracked rock sheets. Animals drink at the waterholes on the rock and tadpoles and aquatic invertebrates appear in the larger pools after rains. As you walk over the rock, watch the quick moving dragon lizards dash for cover beneath granite sheets!
