Description

The Djerring Trail is a newly constructed 17-kilometre shared use path in south-eastern Melbourne, Australia.

It runs parallel to the Pakenham and Cranbourne railway lines and has become one of Melbourne's most popular cycling and walking trails.

The Djerring Trail is part of the Level Crossing Removal Project, which aimed to remove level crossings between Caufield and Dandenong by raising the rail. Construction of the shared path began in early 2018 alongside the removal of nine level crossings. The trail extends about 12 kilometres and merges with existing paths to form the Djerring Trail. The name was chosen through a voting process, with 'Djerring Trail' being revealed as the winner.

The Djerring Trail follows the path of the Pakenham and Cranbourne railway lines, running parallel to them from Caulfield Station to Dandenong. It passes through bustling suburbs and offers views of diverse landscapes, including countryside, industrial areas, and urban neighborhoods. The trail is clearly marked and easy to navigate, making it suitable for leisure cyclists and those seeking a bit more challenge.

The Djerring Trail provides easy access to other significant bike paths in southeastern Melbourne. It connects directly with the Dandenong Creek Trail and the EastLink Trail. Nearby are the Gardiners Creek Trail and the Anniversary Trail. The Rosstown Rail Trail also meets the Djerring Trail, providing a valuable link for pedestrians and cyclists. At the end of the trail, just south of Huntingdale Station, is the Monash University - Clayton campus, accessible via the path on North Road.

Whether you are a leisure cyclist or a more experienced rider, the Djerring Trail offers an easy-to-navigate route with varied and picturesque scenery.
