Description

Dowling Track Thargomindah is a 567-kilometre Four Wheel Drive experience that connects Back ‘o’ Bourke and Quilpie in South West Queensland.

It offers an opportunity for travellers to explore the rich heritage of the area, which was discovered by early pioneers over 100 years ago. The track is named after Vincent James Dowling, one of the first pioneers to travel through the "Plains of Promise".

Travelling along Dowling Track Thargomindah is a journey of discovery, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty and history of the region. This area was once home to those seeking a better life, including the Australian author Henry Lawson, who walked from Bourke to Hungerford and back in search of work. Travellers can experience the same landscapes and pioneering spirit along the track.

The natural beauty of the region is a major attraction, with breathtaking starry skies that stretch as far as the eye can see. Along the way, visitors can encounter a variety of fauna and flora, including kangaroos, emus, and vibrant wildflowers that transform the area into a colorful spectacle during spring.

For the best experience, it is recommended to visit Dowling Track Thargomindah between April and October when the weather conditions are mild and the area is at its most beautiful. To access Dowling Track Thargomindah, take the Adventure Way from Brisbane, heading west via Charleville, Cunnamulla, and Eulo. The track starts 2 km east of Cunnamulla along the Hungerford Road.
