East Mount Barren

East Mount Barren is a majestic quartzite peak located in the Barren Range, which is a part of the Fitzgerald River National Park.

Its name was given by Matthew Flinders on January 6, 1802, due to the peak's barren appearance. East Mount Barren is located along with West Mount Barren and Middle Mount Barren, both of which are other striking peaks in the area.

Visitors to Fitzgerald River National Park should take the opportunity to hike the walking track up to East Mount Barren. The track ascends 200 meters (656 ft) in height and has a reasonably challenging gradient. Once you arrive at the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the coast that stretch from Doubtful Islands to Mason Point. The summit also provides stunning views of the inland, which extend up to 50 kilometers (31 mi). It is worth noting that visitors should come prepared with sufficient water, food, and protective gear during their hike.

East Mount Barren is well known for being home to several endemic plant species. The species that you can find only in the immediate environs of East Mount Barren include Acacia argutifolia (East Barrens wattle), Adenanthos ellipticus (oval-leaf adenanthos), Anthocercis fasciculata, Banksia speciosa (showy banksia), Calothamnus macrocarpus, Dampiera deltoidea, Eucalyptus burdettiana (Burdett gum), Eucalyptus coronata (crowned mallee), Gonocarpus hispidus, Hakea hookerana, Hibbertia papillata, Jacksonia compressa, Kun
