Description

Ebor Falls is a magnificent tiered waterfall located in the New England region of New South Wales.

Situated on the Guy Fawkes River, the falls are 37 kilometres (23 mi) north-east of Wollomombi on the famous Waterfall Way.

Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the first lookout, which is accessible on a sealed road just 200 metres (660 ft) off the Waterfall Way. The first viewing platform provides a spectacular vista of the upper falls cascading 115 metres (377 ft) over four layers of columned basalt rock. Continuing along the path for 600 metres (2,000 ft) will lead visitors to the lower Ebor falls, which plunge into a steep, forested gorge over Permian sedimentary rocks.

Ebor Falls is located within the Guy Fawkes River National Park, offering various recreational activities such as viewing platforms, walking tracks, picnic tables, rest areas with barbecues, and public toilets. In 2008, the waterfalls attracted up to 80,000 tourists annually. Camping is not allowed at the Ebor Falls site, but neighboring Cathedral Rock National Park provides excellent camping opportunities.

The falls were protected within a recreation reserve in 1895. In September 2008, new platforms were opened to replace those destroyed by fire in 2007, offering magnificent views of this natural wonder.

Around 19 million years ago, the lava flows from the nearby extinct Ebor volcano created the unique and wondrous Ebor Falls. The falls hold cultural significance for the Gumbaynggirr people, who call them Martiam, meaning "the great falls" in their Aboriginal expression.
