Eglinton is a locality in the Western Australian capital city of Perth, approximately 44 kilometres (27 mi) north of Perth's central business district on the Indian Ocean.
Welcome to Eglinton
Eglinton is bounded to the north by Yanchep, to the east by Carabooda and to the south by Alkimos. The suburb was established in 1974.
For the most part, Eglinton is covered in native banksia woodland, scrubland and heath typical of the Swan Coastal Plain. There is also some low-level agriculture based along Wanneroo and Pipidinny Roads as well as two housing estates abutting Marmion Avenue.
However, in recent years, there has been growth in residential estates, with a town centre to be built in the near future. Construction is under way to extend the Joondalup railway line through to Yanchep with the Eglinton Railway Station to be located inside the Allara Estate.
The Allara Estate from Satterley is one of only two estates now being developed in Eglinton, with the other being the Amberton Estate from Stockland.

Eglinton is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Established Coastal Place Management Area
The area, which has many parks for local residents, is part of the State Government’s Alkimos-Eglinton region and is being considered for a future urban region.

Origin of name and history
The suburb was named in 1974 after the barque sailing vessel ‘Eglinton’, which was wrecked on rocks near Alkimos in 1852, which now also bear its name. This Eglinton was approved on 7 May 1973 but as a name for a port to be constructed about 8 kms south of the Moore River. The approval for the locality name in this area was approved on 19 February 1974.
Prior to European settlement, the Mooro tribe of the Noongar people lived in what has become the northern Perth metropolitan region for more than 40,000 years, taking advantage of the abundant food and water around the chain of wetlands on the Swan Coastal Plain. According to Noongar Nyitting (Dreaming), Pipidinny Swamp, located in eastern Eglinton, was created from the blood and flesh of the crocodile's tail as he walked back towards the Kimberely’s after his fight with the shark.
In 1865, European settlers used the Aboriginal tracks along the west side of the lakes as a stock route from Dongara to Fremantle. The portion of the stock route between Joondalup and Yanchep was made part of the Bicentennial Heritage Trails Network in 1988, and is now known as the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail.
Due to possible confusion with the feature Eglinton Rocks, south of Yanchep, the localities of Eglinton, Maranock and Myuna were amalgamated into one area and renamed Wilbinga on 6 November 1975. Concurrently, the existing locality of Ningana was renamed Eglinton.
On 9 January 1980, during the recognition of new localities in the City of Wanneroo, Eglinton was defined as a locality.
