Description
Elisa Markes-Young was born in Poland, moved to Germany in 1981 and arrived in Australia in 2002, living in Perth Australia ever since.
With her cross-cultural biography, she feels caught between worlds and questions how Polish or German she really is. What and where is home? Not a dot on a map defined by lines and numbers, but a psychological state, something that James Baldwin called an 'irrevocable condition'.
Elisa relates to Croatian writer Dubravka Ugresic who thinks that memories are where we might live after we've lost the real thing. Memories are the closest she has to a home.
