Four Hawk Day Winery: A Family-Run Organic and Biodynamic Winery in Marlborough
Located in the scenic Waihopai Valley of Marlborough, New Zealand, Four Hawk Day Winery is a family-run winery that produces organic and biodynamic wines.
Established in 1993 by Adrian Landon-Lane and Jo Janssen, the winery is situated in the Cowslip Valley, alongside the banks of the Omaka River. The valley's unique topography creates a distinct microclimate within the Waihopai Valley grape-growing area, resulting in a temperature range between minus 14 to plus 42 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for grape cultivation.
The Story behind the Name Four Hawk Day
Adrian Landon-Lane and Jo Janssen left their busy city life to provide their children with the opportunity to grow up in the countryside. Four Hawk Day Winery's name originated from a game their children used to play on the drive to town, where sighting four hawks was regarded as the best day imaginable. The winery's label, featuring a hawk, is a painting created by the family, who are closely involved in every aspect of the winemaking process.
Award-Winning Wines
Four Hawk Day's wines are crafted using traditional old-world methods and techniques that are passed down from generation to generation. Their Sauvignon Blanc has won several awards and is highly famous among local and international wine enthusiasts. They use only estate-grown organic grapes that are carefully selected and picked by hand to create their wines' rich and robust tastes.
