Description
The Furneaux Museum is on Flinders Island, one of the Furneaux Group of islands in eastern Bass Strait.
It's not widely known that events occurred in these islands which influenced the course of Australia's early colonial history, starting with a shipwreck in 1797 and the following sealing 'rush' which led to the survival of Tasmania's indigenous population.
