Description

Gap Park Watsons Bay is a popular tourist destination in Sydney, known for its spectacular views of Sydney Harbour and the ocean.

Visitors can engage in various activities such as walking, bird watching, and whale watching. The park also has a rich history with remnants of early fortifications and shipwrecks.

A new accessible pathway has been created along the historic tramway route through Gap Park, connecting Military Road and Old South Head Road. This pathway is pram-friendly and offers a different experience from the Coastal Walk path. It takes visitors through a bushland rock escarpment and an exotic rainforest gully. A raised timber boardwalk has been constructed to protect prominent Fig tree roots, and seating is available for resting and enjoying the views.

Gap Park is located on Old South Head Road in Watsons Bay and can be easily accessed by public transport or car. The park offers facilities such as historic fortifications, park benches, and two emergency telephones. It is recommended to wear appropriate footwear, sunscreen, and a hat as there is no shade in the park.

The best time to visit Gap Park is during spring or autumn when the weather is mild and comfortable. Visitors can also witness the migration of Humpback whales along the coast during August and September.

Dogs are not allowed in Gap Park to protect the native flora and fauna. Visitors are requested to respect this rule and leave their dogs at home.
