The Garage Project Cellar Door is a must-visit location for craft beer enthusiasts visiting Wellington, New Zealand.
Founded in 2011 by brothers Ian and Pete Gillespie, and Jos Ruffell, this brewery is located in Aro Valley, Wellington. What makes this brewery unique is that it was once a car garage, which the founders renovated to start their craft beer brewing journey.
What You Can See and Do
The Garage Project Cellar Door offers visitors an immersive experience in the brewing process. Visitors can take a guided tour of the brewery to learn about the history, brewing methods and to see the beers being made. You can sample their range of craft beers on tap in the taproom, which displays a rotating selection of their latest creations. The range of beers is vast, and the brewery frequently releases limited edition beers. You can also find Garage Project merchandise and beer for purchase to take home with you.
When You Should Go
The Garage Project Cellar Door is open from Thursdays through Sundays, between 12 pm to 6 pm. The tap room and brewery can be exceedingly busy, particularly during peak periods like weekends. To ensure you get a spot, it is recommended that you consider booking ahead in advance.
How to Get There
The Garage Project Cellar Door is located at 91 Aro St, Aro Valley, Wellington. The Aro Valley location can be easily accessed by public transport. Buses run to the city centre, Karori, Northland, Khandallah, Johnsonville, Ngaio, and Hataitai, to name a few. If you are driving, there is a parking lot available, but it can be quite small due to the popularity of the brewery, so it's best to consider parking elsewhere and walking to the location.

The Garage Project Cellar Door is an award-winning brewery, having received several accolades over the years. The brewery has won 19 spots in the 2018 GABS Hottest 100 Kiwi Craft Beers poll. The founders' innovative 24/24 project produced 24 new beers in 24 weeks, which garnered significant attention in the craft beer community.
