Description
The Gardiner's Creek Trail is a picturesque trail suitable for cycling and pedestrians.
It starts at St Kevin's College, opposite Scotch College, and Kooyong railway station. The trail covers a distance of 18 km and passes through the suburbs of Toorak, Hawthorn, and Kooyong before diverging from the Main Yarra Trail. The section from Winton Road to Warrigal Road has a gap which is being campaigned by Bicycle Victoria for a connection. The proposed path would continue along the creek, beside the Malvern Public Golf Course, to bridge the gap between Winton Road and Warrigal Road.
The Gardiner's Creek Trail then crosses over Winton Road near Malvern East Railway Station. The path continues to Solway Street Bridge, which was rebuilt and reopened in late 2011 after being washed away by floodwaters in February 2011. The path then goes through Markham Reserve to Warrigal Road. The underpass of Warrigal Road, completed in August 2011, makes it easy to access the path on the east side of Warrigal Road, at the north bank of the creek. The trail continues through Ashwood Reserve to High Street Road, then to Gardiners Reserve to Highbury Road. A pedestrian crossing passes over the road, and after crossing the creek on the road bridge, the path continues north through Local History Park in Burwood to the intersection of McIntyre Street, Elgar Road, and Burwood Highway, near Presbyterian Ladies' College and the Burwood Campus of Deakin University.
The Gardiner's Creek Trail continues northeast, via a path on the north bank of the Box Hill Golf Course, to the intersection of Canterbury
