Description
Glenfern Sanctuary is an 83-hectare regional park on Aotea Great Barrier Island.
It serves as the gateway to the predator-fenced 240-hectare Kotuku Peninsula and is committed to protecting endangered flora and fauna. The park is open to the public free of charge and offers a 2km loop track through native bush to observe endangered species and learn about the sanctuary's work.
Glenfern Sanctuary also provides unique holiday accommodation in historic Fitzroy House and Glenfern Cottage. The self-contained cottage sleeps six and offers a private location with views of Port Fitzroy. Guests have access to walking tracks, an Auckland regional park, and a private wharf. Guided or self-guided walks, including a swing bridge to a Kauri tree, are available.
Glenfern Cottage is located next to Fitzroy House, which sleeps ten. Both can be rented for large gatherings, weddings, or corporate functions. The income from these accommodations supports the management of Glenfern Sanctuary.
