Description

Goat Island is an island located in Port Jackson, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

It has served various purposes throughout history, including as a gunpowder storage, arsenal, shipyard, and film set. Today, it is part of the Sydney Harbour National Park. The island covers an area of 5.4 hectares and is visually prominent at the confluence of Port Jackson, Darling Harbour, and the Parramatta River. Goat Island has little vegetation and was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 1999. It holds significant historical value and has associations with notable figures such as George Barney and Edmund Blackett. The island has also been used for concerts and film productions. Recently reopened to the public, Goat Island offers tours on weekdays and is a popular destination for visitors interested in Australian history and the stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
