The walk takes you along old logging tracks where you'll pass large, moss-covered granite boulders, towering Eucalypts such as the Peppermint Gum and the beautiful Ti-tree thickets. The track offers a variety of hills and slopes, making it suitable for hikers of all levels of fitness. You'll also have a chance to spot local wildlife, including native birds and small mammals.

The best time to walk the Golden Mountain Walking Track is between late autumn and early spring, when the weather is mild and the landscape is lush and green. During summer, temperatures can get high, and the vegetation can become dry and hazardous. Winter and early spring offer a chance to see the local flora and fauna in full bloom.
The Golden Mountain Walking Track is approximately a 2-hour drive north of Melbourne. From Melbourne, take the Hume Freeway (M31) and exit at either the Avenel or Euroa turnoffs. Follow the signs towards the Strathbogie region and the trailhead of the Golden Mountain Walking Track, which is located on Murrindindi Road. You can park your car at the trailhead, and there are no fees or permits required to access the walk.
