Description

Governors Chair lookout, named after a former governor of Queensland, offers one of the most beautiful views of Fassifern Valley.

Visitors can marvel at the stunning landscape and its volcanic peaks from this lookout point, which is just a short 300 m walk from the car park. Governors Chair is located in Main Range National Park, approximately 120 km southwest of Brisbane. To get there, visitors should take Lake Moogerah Rd and turn onto Spicers Gap Road until they reach the car park at the end of the road. The 300 m return walk to Governors Chair is an easy grade 3 walking track. While there are steps on the path, they are not suitable for wheelchairs or prams. At the end of the trail, visitors will find themselves at the top of a cliff where Governors Chair is located. Children should be supervised very closely. Although the lookout is open 24/7, it is recommended that visitors go to Governors Chair before dawn to watch the red glow of first light dissipate the night sky as the sun peeps over the mountains. For visitors who want to stay overnight, the Spicers Gap campground is a great base with toilets and picnic tables. Keep in mind that this campground is not suitable for caravans as you can't drive into the sites. Visitors can reach Governors Chair via a steep gravel road at Spicers Gap. The eastern approach is suitable for conventional vehicles whereas the western approach is only suitable for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities at Governors Chair. Visitors should check park alerts for the latest information on access, closures, and conditions before visiting. Additionally, they should always keep gates as they find them and stay on Spicers Gap Road
