Description
The Grand Ridge Rail Trail, also known as Mirboo North to Boolarra Rail Trail, is a 13-kilometer hiking trail located in the picturesque Strzelecki Ranges of west central Gippsland.
This well-maintained trail connects the small towns of Mirboo North and Boolarra, offering a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the surrounding natural beauty.
The Grand Ridge Rail Trail follows the line of the former Mirboo North railway line for the entire distance, which makes it the perfect trail for history buffs and railway enthusiasts. The gentle gradient of the trail makes it ideal for a leisurely hike, while the lush greenery, stunning views, and peaceful surroundings make it an excellent choice for nature lovers.
In February 2009, the trail was closed down temporarily, following bushfires that damaged two bridges along the track. Fortunately, both bridges have been repaired, and the trail has been reopened. In February 2012, an official ceremony was held to mark the occasion, and since then, the trail has continued to draw visitors from far and wide who appreciate the opportunity to experience a unique blend of history, nature, and adventure.
If you are looking for a scenic hiking trail that offers a perfect blend of history, nature, and adventure, the Grand Ridge Rail Trail is an excellent choice. With spectacular views, lush greenery, and a rich history, this trail is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Strzelecki Ranges.
