The Guthega to Charlotte Pass Walk is a 9-kilometre trek located in the picturesque Kosciuszko National Park.
Set on Monero Ngarigo Country, this exhilarating walking track offers visitors a breathtaking experience with fresh alpine air and stunning views of the Snowy Mountains.
The trail winds through deep green valleys, past rushing rivers and glistening creeks, and up steep mountain slopes. Along the way, walkers can expect to encounter the local wildlife, including curious kangaroos and wallabies. The summit of Mount Stillwell provides panoramic views of the Snowy Mountains, including Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest peak. Nearby trails lead to Porcupine Rocks, offering stunning views over Guthega Dam.
The best time to tackle this walk is from December to March when the weather is warm and the trails are at their driest. This period offers ideal conditions for scenic trekking with comfortable temperatures and long daylight hours.
The starting point of the walk is the small village of Guthega, accessible by road from Jindabyne. The walk finishes at Charlotte Pass, where walkers can catch a shuttle bus back to Guthega. Visitors can reach Jindabyne by car from Canberra, which takes approximately 2.5 hours, or from Sydney, which takes approximately 5-6 hours. Alternatively, visitors can fly into Canberra or Cooma airport and rent a car to reach the start of the trail.
