The Hamilton New Zealand Temple is a historic and beautiful temple located in Hamilton, New Zealand.
It was announced in 1955 and dedicated in 1958. The temple is considered a historic temple by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is a sacred place for its members. It was the first temple built outside of the United States and Canada and the first temple built in the Southern Hemisphere.
The temple is 4,204 square meters and stands 47.5 meters tall. The original floor plan featured 75 rooms on three levels. The basement housed the baptistry, offices, dressing rooms, dining, and kitchen facilities. The main floor included the entrance, waiting rooms, chapel, and instruction rooms. The upper level contained the celestial room, sealing rooms, and additional instruction rooms.
The temple's exterior features historic painted concrete masonry that remains unchanged. The interior has been recently renovated and reconfigured for better flow and efficiency. Some of the original design elements were restored, including the original light fixtures, which were cleaned and rewired. Overall, the Hamilton New Zealand Temple is a sacred and significant place for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
